HR Kamins in the studio
HR Kamins has worked in the visual arts industry her entire career.  After obtaining  a BFA degree, successes as an illustrator and graphic artist for several printing companies were followed by management positions including Creative Director for a Fortune 500 company.

The artist then supplemented her educational studies at BU, Northeastern, and M.I.T., and by the early 1980’s became a pioneer in the computer graphics industry. She consulted for GE, Libby Owens Ford, Digital, and other companies and was hired to do international live computer graphics painting demos at trade conventions.

In 1986, Kamins founded HR Graphics, Inc., that catered to the Boston area video and interactive videodisc production facilities, offering storyboarding, animation, and technical illustration. HR had the pleasure of working with numerous clients, producers, writers, editors and audio masters.  In 1996, she closed the business in order to focus on raising her two sons and to resume her fine arts interests.

"...the paintings are so representative of what Helen sees and feels when she's creating them."
  -N. Wayne, NYC

ARTIST’S STATEMENT:

A lifelong passion of traveling and studying the natural world fuels my creativity. My oil paintings are primarily created en plein air. Painting outdoors on site allows the paintings to become imbued with the particular atmosphere of the site, both physical and spiritual. This can result in imagery ranging from the serene to the effervescent.
By living in the Gloucester area and frequenting Provincetown my entire life, I find myself falling into the continuum of previous ‘American Impressionists.’ I too am enamored with the unusual warm light found here.
A consistent theme in my work is the juxtaposition of orderliness to the untamed. Brushstrokes in the paintings reveal perpetual interaction between careful, controlled applications to flamboyant and bold strokes.
The words ‘confident and vibrant’ have been used to describe my paintings. ‘Confident’, as in draftsmanship which came through generating photo-realistic artwork in early years, to become further developed through myriad assignments as a professional illustrator. ‘Vibrant’… well, probably because as I get older I have more freedom to take risks with my work and experiment more.
"HR KAMINS' art work is a unique blend of virtuosity and substance.  Her powerful, visually dramatic themes (e.g. natural vs. man-made, turbulent vs. serene) send shivers down my spine long before my conscious mind has a chance to understand why."
