‘BEACH ACTIVITIES' is an active, spirited impression of what usually goes on at any beach, anywhere.
You've got, of course, the sky, sand and sea, and lots of different folks. There's the singles on their stomach, occasionally
lifting their heads to see who's going by, the lethargic ones (probably from too much partying the night before and who just
barely made it to the beach) and the energetic kid jumping to and fro at the water's edge no mater how cold the water may
be. And, oh yes, the adults with the toddler, here in the foreground, who are wondering why I keep looking at them....!

signed LR This is one of my favorite paintings.
It is the result of left-over paint I had on my palette after I finished my main plein air painting of that
day. Being a product of immigrants, I certainly didn't want to waste the oil paints so I looked to my right, a southern
view, and saw a very peculiar, natural phenomenon. On the two clusters of exposed boulders were perched many birds.
The curious thing was that the black cormorants were exclusively basking in the sun on the outer rocks, while the white seagulls
solely occupied the rocks closer to shore. Wow... really? I looked and looked but saw NO intermingling.

"SINGING BEACH , AFTERNOON LOW TIDE" Manchester-by-the-Sea,

In this oil on canvas painting of Singing Beach, MA, I challenged myself to portraying a late afternoon scene with
low tide water depths. In addition, I wanted to convey the atmosphere of the scene using as few brushstrokes
as necessary.
